PGP Encryption
For sensitive communications, we strongly recommend using PGP encryption. PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) provides end-to-end encryption that protects your message from interception. Even if email servers are compromised, properly encrypted PGP messages remain secure.
The CosmicNet PGP public key is available for download and can be verified through multiple channels. When sending encrypted messages, include your own public key if you want to receive encrypted replies. If you're new to PGP, the Email Self-Defense guide from the Free Software Foundation provides step-by-step instructions for getting started.
Verify our key fingerprint before use to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks. Our key is also available on public keyservers.
Verifying CosmicNet's Identity
When using cryptographic communication, verifying the identity of the party you're communicating with is crucial. The CosmicNet PGP key fingerprint is published on this website, on our social media profiles, and on public keyservers. Cross-reference the fingerprint across multiple channels to ensure authenticity.
If you have concerns about the authenticity of communications claiming to be from CosmicNet, verify the PGP signature. All official encrypted communications from CosmicNet will be signed with our key. Be suspicious of unsigned messages or messages signed with different keys claiming to be from us.
Anonymous Contact Methods
CosmicNet understands that some communications require stronger anonymity protections. For situations where you need to contact us without revealing your identity or location, CosmicNet offers several options:
Session Messenger: Session is an encrypted messenger that requires no phone number or email address and routes messages through an onion routing network. Session IDs are cryptographic public keys, making them fully anonymous. Contact CosmicNet via Session for anonymous communication that does not rely on email infrastructure.
Email via Tor: You can access our email through Tor Browser to hide your IP address and location. Create a temporary email account through Tor (using services like ProtonMail or Tutanota that support Tor access) and email us from that account. This provides strong anonymity while still allowing asynchronous communication.
SecureDrop (Planned): CosmicNet is working on deploying a SecureDrop instance for whistleblowers and sources who need to share sensitive documents. SecureDrop is designed for anonymous document submission and uses Tor hidden services to protect source identity. Check back for updates on SecureDrop availability.
Maintaining Anonymity
If you choose to contact us anonymously, remember that maintaining anonymity requires careful operational security on your end as well. Use Tor Browser for all communications related to your anonymous identity. Don't mix anonymous and identified identities in the same browser session. Avoid including identifying information in your messages. Consider whether metadata like writing style or specific knowledge could identify you.
For extremely sensitive communications, review threat modeling resources to understand what you're protecting against and what measures are necessary. The EFF's Surveillance Self-Defense guide provides excellent advice on protecting communications based on your specific threat model.
What to Contact Us About
Content Corrections: If you identify factual errors, outdated information, or important omissions in CosmicNet articles, please let us know. Include specific page references and, when possible, links to authoritative sources that support the correction. We take accuracy seriously and will investigate all reported issues promptly.
Technical Issues: Report broken links, display problems, or other technical issues with the website. Include information about your browser and operating system to help us reproduce and fix the problem.
Content Suggestions: CosmicNet welcomes suggestions for topics to cover or areas where our content could be expanded. While we can't promise to write about every suggested topic, community input helps us understand what information people need.

What We Cannot Help With
To set appropriate expectations, please note that we cannot provide:
- Personal Technical Support: We don't provide individualized troubleshooting for privacy tools or security issues. For tool-specific help, consult the official documentation and support channels for that tool.
- Legal Advice: We cannot advise on legal matters. Consult qualified legal professionals for legal guidance related to privacy law, encryption regulations, or other legal questions.
- Security Services: CosmicNet is an educational resource, not a security consultancy. We don't perform security audits, penetration testing, or security consulting services.
- Emergency Assistance: If you're facing an immediate security threat, contact appropriate authorities or organizations equipped to provide emergency assistance, such as the Digital Defenders Partnership for human rights defenders.
Response Expectations
The CosmicNet team reads all messages we receive and responds to most within a few days. Response times may be longer for complex inquiries that require research. Some messages, particularly spam or those requesting assistance with illegal activities, will not receive responses.
For content corrections, we prioritize accuracy over speed. If you report an error, we will investigate thoroughly before making changes, which may take some time. We'll acknowledge receipt of your message and follow up once we've verified and addressed the issue.
Anonymous communications via Session or Tor email may take slightly longer to respond to, as we check these channels less frequently than standard email. If you need to maintain an ongoing conversation anonymously, let us know in your initial message so we can arrange appropriate communication protocols.
Security Considerations
Email is not a secure communication medium by default. Even when using PGP encryption, metadata including sender, recipient, subject line, and timestamp remain visible. For truly sensitive communications where even metadata could be revealing, consider using Session or other anonymous communication methods.
Be aware that we may be subject to legal processes requiring disclosure of communications. While we minimize data retention and use secure communication channels, we cannot guarantee absolute protection against legal compulsion. If you're a whistleblower or source, carefully consider your threat model and use appropriate protections.
CosmicNet will never ask you to share sensitive information like passwords or private keys. If you receive communications claiming to be from CosmicNet requesting such information, it's a phishing attempt. Verify all communications using PGP signatures.
